Through the lens of ideology and conflict, Behind The Lines juxtaposes one individual’s life experience with the scale of the world. In an exhibit of maps, photos, and video projections, I trace world conflict as described in the tattoos and wounds of one US soldier.
The soldier’s body is tattooed with imagery describing combat experience in various operations the US military has conducted. The shrapnel, knife and bullet wounds on his body further describe the trauma he experienced in combat. After taking photographs of the soldiers' tattoos and wounds, I created stickers of them that were placed on the world map in the locations where he fought and was wounded.
